Confidence and Safety – Billy Lane’s Termite Pest Control

Termites do more damage to Australian homes than fires, storms and earthquakes put together and your home insurance policy does not cover the damage caused by termites, which can add up to be in the many thousands of dollars to the point of losing your home. The Australian Standards recommends that a termite inspection be done at least every 12 months, and any necessary termite control carried out ASAP. This is to ensure that if you do get termites, that there will be minimal damage.

Termite control is not cheap and does require an inspection to give an accurate quote so we can understand your situation and give you the best possible options. If someone is quoting you over the phone it is likely the treatment may not be very effective. Also, if you choose a national rather than Wollongong or Campbelltown termite control company, they may not understand the local conditions and ideal termite pest control treatments. You should ask the pest control companies that quote on your house what products they are using and why as this should determine the price you will pay as to will the company’s reputation and service.

It is most important that if you think you have found termites that you do not disturb them as it can make the job more difficult.

We do offer a specialised service with the use of our termite detection dog and there are very few pest control businesses around that have them. So if you are just outside our service area and require termite treatments or inspections we will travel to Sydney, Nowra and the Southern Highlands for you, so give us a call or send us an email to find out more.

Chemical Treatments

We only use Non Repellent Chemicals

TERMIDOR

We prefer to use TERMIDOR. This is due to its mode of action and the life expectancy of the product. So it does give you better value for your money. Termidor is not a generic product. TERMIDOR is the newest termite control product on the market in Australia. Since its release in 2002, Termidor has rapidly grown to become one of the leading termite control products on the Australian market.

TERMIDOR is applied as a treatment to the soil surrounding existing structures. Traditionally these types of applications are referred to as chemical barriers, although in the case of Termidor, the chemical does not act in the same way as many older chemicals. Rather than a barrier that repels termites, Termidor acts as a non-repellent treated zone, which allows termites to enter and therefore more efficiently killed.

The reason for this is that Termidor is undetectable to termites. Termites will actually enter the treated zone, where Termidor binds to their cuticle. Once this has occurred, it is only a matter of time before they are killed. And time is not on their side. Termidor’s unique Transfer Effect™ ensures that the Termidor is passed from one termite to the next and as a result even termites that have not directly come into contact with the treated soil can pick up a lethal dose.

Extensive testing with Termidor under Australian conditions where termites were present in the structure showed control within nine weeks, with an average of 4.3 weeks to achieve control. However, not only will Termidor kill termites that are present, it will also prevent concealed entry to structure for a minimum period of 8 years for ALL TERMITE SPECIES – a claim no other termite control product can make.

PROTHOR

We are now starting to use Prothor, this has the same active ingredient as Premise. The reason for us to start using this product is that the manufacturer is willing to give a 5 year guarantee if installed to Australian Standards and annual termite inspections are done. When applied to soil at recommended concentrations, Prothor is undetectable by termites as they tunnel through it. Since termites can’t detect Prothor treated soil, they can’t avoid it. And, when termites do tunnel in soil treated with Prothor, they are killed by their contact with Prothor.

Termite Baiting & Monitoring

We prefer to use EXTERRA as we find that we get better results from this brand and excellent back up service if required.

Termite baiting with Exterra is a straightforward and simple multi-step process. The first step is the installation of stations in the ground at regular intervals around the structure. Stations can also be placed right over current termite activity. The stations are inspected at periodic intervals for the presence of termite activity in the station.

If termites are found in a station, the station is baited. Baited stations are inspected on a regular basis and rebaited as needed. When termite feeding in a station ceases for a length of time, any remaining bait is removed, we would then expect that the colony has died due to feeding on the bait. The in ground stations are regularly monitored, at which point the process begins again. This is necessary in case the colony was not completely eliminated or other nearby termite colonies invade the area vacated by the previous colony.

AQIS Boat Inspections

We are currently in the process of becoming only the second business in Australia to be a preferred Termite inspector for AQIS, this will mean that we meet the standard set by AQIS to inspect your vessel without supervision of an AQIS inspector.
